Journalist, volunteer and political analyst Valeriy Pesetsky died in Odesa after a long struggle with a serious illness.

This was reported by journalist Oleksiy Arkireev.

"In recent years, Valeriy was in a hurry to do good, was strong and courageous in his fight against the disease. Unfortunately, his big heart could not stand the test," the post reads.

The funeral ceremony for Valeriy Pesetsky will take place on March 7, at 13:30, at the Odesa crematorium. Everyone who knew and respected him is invited to come to pay their last respects.

Valeriy Pesetsky was known for his active public position and sharp criticism of the local authorities. In February 2011, he was severely beaten by unknown persons on his way home. The political scientist himself linked the attack to his criticism of Odesa Mayor Oleksiy Kostusev. He also suggested that it could have been related to his work at the election headquarters of the leader of the Rodina party, Igor Markov.

Valeriy Pesetsky also tried his hand at politics: he ran for mayor of Odesa, where he received 284 votes.

On March 4, retired police colonel Anatoliy Korpan, 63, was killed by an enemy drone. He received multiple shrapnel wounds incompatible with life.

Valeriy Hait, vice president of the World Club of Odessans and one of the co-founders of the Odesa "Humorina", died on February 1.

On January 29, Tatiana Belova, a person who devoted her life to supporting national cultures and developing interethnic cooperation in the Odesa region, passed away.

On January 25, People's Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Chornoshkur passed away.

Also, a well-known art critic and teacher Iryna Timokhova died at the age of 78. She devoted more than 40 years to working at the Odesa Art Museum, where she became not only an indispensable employee but also a source of inspiration for many generations.

On January 9, a day of mourning was declared in the Liubashiv community in Odesa region. Serhiy Burdov, the head of the village of Pokrovsk, who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died of a heart attack in a military unit. The soldier was 33 years old.
