UN Security Council discusses massive shelling of Odesa and Kyiv

On June 20, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting due to Russia's recent massive shelling of Ukraine, which hit Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, among others.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced the Security Council's intention to meet on the issue of Ukraine.

France called on the members of the UN Security Council to condemn the escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine and its violation of international humanitarian law in order to force Moscow to put an end to it.

It should be noted that on June 19, Russians attacked at least 34 settlements in Kherson region. The shelling damaged houses, vehicles and outbuildings, and 11 civilians were injured.

In Odesa, on June 20, at night, employees of the State Emergency Service counted more than 10 places where Russian drones hit. Firefighters rescued three people and evacuated six others from the burning building. While fighting the fire and rescuing people, structural elements collapsed on the rescuers, injuring three firefighters. According to the Odesa Region Prosecutor 's Office, the attack killed one person and injured 14 others of varying severity.

On the night of June 12, 2025, the Russian military again launched Shahed-type kamikaze drones at the Vilkovo territorial community. On the night of June 11, the Russian military shelled Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts of the region with Shahed-type drones.

The shelling of Odesa on the night of June 10 damaged and destroyed residential buildings, an emergency ambulance station, a maternity hospital, and a fire broke out on the territory of the Odesa Zoo. At least nine people were injured. Another nine were rescued by firefighters.

According to the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, there were no casualties at the maternity hospital, and patients and staff managed to evacuate.
