UN Humanitarian Coordinator Denise Brown, who is completing her mission in Ukraine, recently visited Mykolaiv and shared her impressions of the trip.

In an interview with Interfax-Ukraine , Denise Brown said that her team is trying to keep up with the fast pace of work of the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Administration , Vitaly Kim, in terms of assistance to the region.

Brown noted that after the visit to Mykolaiv, their team has been working closely with Vitaliy Kim, who has a clear vision for the region. She noted that after the retreat of the frontline in November 2022, new development opportunities have emerged in Mykolaiv, which are more focused on infrastructure restoration than just humanitarian aid.

The UN Resident Coordinator also emphasized that the team is working to rebuild schools and infrastructure in the region and will soon launch a program to support agricultural demining.

"We are trying to accompany Chairman Kim in his vision. He is moving very fast, and we are trying to keep up. He always tells me: 'You guys are too slow'. But we are making efforts there to rebuild schools and infrastructure. We will soon launch a support program for agricultural demining. So, for those farmers who cannot use their fields because they are mined, we will provide the same support as we do in Kharkiv," said Denise Brown.

Last week, a delegation from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs arrived in Mykolaiv on a working visit. It was headed by a new coordinator who will support humanitarian initiatives in the region.

During the visit, the newly appointed UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine , Matthias Schmale, was introduced to the UN system , who will continue to support humanitarian initiatives in the region.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in the region, the provision of humanitarian assistance to war-affected people, support to local communities in overcoming economic and social challenges, and coordination of efforts with other international organizations to provide more effective assistance to the population.

In early July, a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the ambassadors of Switzerland and Austria also visited Mykolaiv.
