Ukrainian Soldiers Shine at Invictus Games 2025 with Medals

Oleksiy Horb, a Ukrainian soldier from Kherson region, won a silver medal in alpine skiing at the Invictus Games 2025 in Canada.

As reported by Suspilne Sport, he competed in the IAS1 (Sit Ski) class and became one of 16 Ukrainian winners of this competition.

In addition to Oleksiy Horb, another Ukrainian, Arsen Riaboshapko, won a silver medal in alpine skiing in the IAS2 (Standing Ski) class.

In total, the Ukrainian national team won 16 medals in winter sports: 6 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze. Ukrainian athletes succeeded in all five disciplines represented: biathlon, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, and skeleton.

The Ukrainians also achieved a historic success, winning four double podiums, and in cross-country skiing, our team took the entire podium.

As Intent previously wrote, Oleksiy was injured in March 2023 while performing a combat mission near the village of Ploshchanka in Luhansk region.

The Invictus Games 2025 international competition for military and veterans has started in Canada. This year, Ukraine is represented by 35 participants from 14 regions.

This year's competition will take place from February 8 to 16 in Vancouver and Whistler. Participants from 22 countries will compete in 11 adaptive sports, including swimming, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair basketball. For the first time in the history of the Invictus Games, the program will include winter disciplines such as alpine skiing, biathlon, skeleton and wheelchair curling.

Earlier, a veteran Yevhen Kaus was presented at the Odesa Barrier-Free Council, who will represent Odesa region at the Invictus Games as part of the national team. Other members of the Ukrainian national team from Odesa region include Oleksiy Vasyliev, a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was injured in Bakhmut, Ilya Pylypenko, a sailor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was injured in a tank explosion near Bilohirka, and Oleksiy Prytula, a senior soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was injured in Yampolivka.
