The soldiers from Kherson region received state awards for their courage and heroism in the fight against the Russian occupiers. They have been defending Ukraine since 2014 and participated in rescue operations, including after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.

This was announced by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Prokudin.

"The soldiers of the 34th Kherson Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine continue to prove their steadfastness and heroism in the fight against the Russian occupiers. Their contribution to the defense of the homeland was recognized at the highest level - President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the military with the honorary insignia "For Courage and Bravery".

According to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the region is proud of every soldier who has been fighting for Ukraine's independence without fear or hesitation since 2014.

"When Russia launched a full-scale invasion, the desperate resistance of our military made the Russians remember with blood: Kherson is Ukraine," said Prokudin.

In addition to participating in combat operations, the soldiers of the 34th Regiment also distinguished themselves during the rescue operation after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, which was another crime of the Russian occupiers against the civilian population.

The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration also personally congratulated the soldiers and presented them with regional awards. He thanked the defenders for their conscientious service and defense of their native land.

Last year, Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the 34th Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine the honorary name "Kherson". The soldiers of this unit took an active part in the liberation of Vysokopillia, the surrounding villages and Posad-Pokrovskyi, and on November 11, 2022, they were among the first to enter the liberated Kherson.

After the de-occupation of the right-bank part of the Kherson region, the National Guard continues to perform combat missions and destroy the enemy on the left bank of the Dnipro.

In addition, on the Day of Unity of Ukraine in January, the President awarded the Order of Merit III degree to two employees of Kherson utilities. Volodymyr Yelkin, a driver at Kherson Municipal Transport Service, received the award, and Volodymyr Shum, chief specialist of the City Council's environmental department, was awarded posthumously.

Last year, four Kherson residents were honored with state awards for their work and contribution to maintaining the city's vital functions during the war. These awards symbolize the recognition of the importance of everyone who brings Ukraine's victory closer through their work.
