The Izmail City District Court of Odesa Region sentenced a local resident to 15 years in prison for high treason.

As stated in the court's verdict, in November 2024, the man decided to earn money by cooperating with Russian special services.

Using messengers, he began to look for either Russian special services officers or those who cooperated with the Russians. In order to pass them intelligence. Eventually, he contacted an unidentified representative of the enemy special service.

Later, after correspondence with the Russian curator, the convict passed him data on the movement and permanent deployment of a separate battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine based in Izmail. In the end, the traitor received 6 thousand hryvnias for his work.

At the beginning of the trial, the accused pleaded guilty to the charges in full, but later, during his testimony, he actually admitted partially, noting that he had no criminal intent to harm the interests of Ukraine, he had only cheated a representative of a foreign state out of money, and explained that in early November 2024, his friend learned about his difficult financial situation and decided to help him. This acquaintance gave him the phone number of an employee of the Russian special services and explained that he could be cheated out of money. Since he was being threatened, he decided to accept the offer to be cheated by the Russian special services, namely to search for photos on the Internet, take the coordinates from there and send them to the enemy.

The representative of the Russian Federation asked him to go to certain places, namely military units, training grounds, locations of military equipment, mark points on the map and send him the coordinates. He concluded that this was an employee of an enemy intelligence service when he said that he would verify the information provided, and therefore he promised him that he would send him accurate data. However, he still had doubts about this person, so he did not go to his address, but only copied the geographical data from the Internet. He searched for Novosibirsk and her photo matched the National Guard building. After receiving the data, representatives of the Russian Federation told him that these were old maps. They also explained to him that the coordinates of military units were needed to verify the data so that no one would be harmed, but he understood why they needed this data. In addition, he was asked to enter the territory of the military unit in women's clothing, which he agreed to and found a photo of a person allegedly on the territory of the unit on the Internet, which he sent to representatives of the Russian Federation.

For the information he provided, he was twice transferred money to the card he provided in the amount of 1 thousand hryvnias, and the last time he received a money transfer in the amount of 4 thousand hryvnias. He also explained that he was aware that martial law was in force in the country and that he repented of his actions, but he was motivated to commit these actions by the belief that he was not breaking the law by deceiving a person by allegedly providing them with false information.
