A resident of Mykolaiv, who worked for the enemy special services for a year and a half, will spend the next 15 years behind bars. The court found the 66-year-old man guilty of high treason and illegal possession of weapons.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The man began his cooperation with the occupiers in February 2023. He became the 'eyes' of the enemy in Mykolaiv: he tracked the deployment of the Armed Forces units and searched for strategic enterprises of the defense industry. A separate task was to report on the results of the arrivals - the traitor passed on data on the destruction of both military and civilian facilities. All communication was conducted through anonymous chats in the messenger.

SBU CI detained the agent in September 2024 in his apartment. During the searches, they found not only gadgets with correspondence, but also a rifled revolver and more than two dozen rounds of ammunition that he was keeping illegally.

The court sentenced him to a combination of crimes: 15 years in prison with full confiscation of property. The convict will remain in custody until the sentence enters into force.

In particular, the SBU military counterintelligence, with the support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, exposed another informant of Russian special services in Mykolaiv region. The detainee was a 21-year-old serviceman of one of the Air Defense units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who was recruited by the enemy.

The investigation established that the suspect was passing information to the Russian side about the operation of the Ukrainian air defense system near operational airfields. In particular, during air alerts, he took pictures of monitors with closed software on his phone while on combat duty.
