The National Health Service of Ukraine is monitoring how the Odesa Regional Clinical Antitumor Center, a municipal non-profit enterprise of the Odesa Regional Council, is fulfilling contracts under the Medical Guarantees Program.

This is reported by the Center for Public Investigations, citing its own sources.

According to the CPI, it is about checking unreasonable demands for money from doctors, complaints from citizens, and the number of violations found in Odesa Oblast.

The results of the inspection will become known when the head of the NHSU, Natalia Husak, pays a working visit to Odesa and reports publicly during a press briefing.

Updated. Acting Director of the Southern Interregional Department of the NHSU Denys Chornyi told the CPR that his staff had made a working visit to the cancer center. Where they communicated with its representatives on fulfilling their obligations, providing quality medical services in accordance with the specifications and requirements established by law, ensuring that patients exercise their rights to receive medical services and compensating for damages caused to patients in connection with violations of the requirements.

According to the CPR, the cancer center is often involved in scandals.

In particular, in 2024, a contractor for the overhaul of the cancer center worth more than UAH 20 million was selected without an auction. The repairs concern specialized rooms for remote radiation therapy.

In addition, the Odesa Oncology Center continues to be in conflict with its former director. Judges of the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa refused to satisfy the motion of the current management of the cancer center to terminate the proceedings under the lawsuit filed by the center's former director Vyacheslav Polyasnyi. The former official demands that the decision of the Odesa Regional Council to dismiss him and, accordingly, reinstate him in his position be recognized as illegal and canceled.

In 2023, after a journalist investigation, the Odesa Cancer Center regained its premises: officials were accused of distributing buildings.

Also, after the CPR investigation, the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper , replaced the chief physician of the Odesa Regional Clinical Antitumor Center of the Odesa Regional Council.

In addition, the municipal non-profit enterprise Odesa Regional Clinical Anti-Tumor Center of the Odesa Regional Council held a tender to select a contractor who will be paid for the overhaul of some specialized premises for remote radiation therapy.
