The water cutoff that occurred in Odesa due to an accident on June 12 will continue until June 13 at 22:00 due to the complexity of the work to eliminate the breakthrough.

This was reported by the press service of the Infoksvodokanal branch responsible for the city's water supply system.

Earlier, the company's specialists tentatively predicted that water supply would be restored at 8:00 a.m. on June 13, but the work turned out to be more complicated than expected. The reason is that the accident happened not in the city, but in a field, and it is difficult to bring heavy equipment such as excavators and other machinery to the breakthrough site due to the eroded soil.

"It took almost a day to build access roads and a platform for heavy equipment to reach the problem area and start repair work. Excavators weighing at least 18 tons are used to work on large-diameter water mains, so our specialists had to create a special "pillow" of several layers of concrete slabs and sand. We used more than 150 tons of sand alone," the company said.

As of 8:00 a.m., the company's employees had excavated the pit, reached the site of the damage and started restoration work.

As of 4 p.m. on June 12, the 1,200-millimeter diameter main pressure water supply line was still without water supply due to an emergency breakthrough:

This is not the first time that water supply system breakdowns have occurred, as on July 18, 2024, a water supply system breakdown occurred in the center of Odesa due to the heat. Three districts of the city were left without water. On July 9, Odesa water utility specialists dismantled part of the damaged pipe and prepared repair materials for the connection. But after the dismantling, an unexpected "surprise" made adjustments to the work progress - it turned out that another part of the cast-iron pipe was offset along the axis due to man-made impact. The work continued until the evening of July 19.
