The Kyiv District Court of Odesa found a local resident guilty of influence peddling and sentenced him to UAH 51,000.
As stated in the court's verdict, the fighter of a volunteer territorial community formation, together with an acquaintance, promised a person liable for military service to influence the formation's commander to get the client to join the DFTG.
For their services, they asked the client for USD 4,000, of which they were supposed to give part to the commander and keep the rest for themselves. The money was received in two tranches - 2 thousand dollars initially and another 2 thousand later. During the transfer of the last 2 thousand, the men were detained by the Security Service of Ukraine.
During the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty to the criminal offense and explained that he had indeed committed the crime under the circumstances set forth in the indictment, and they fully correspond to the actual circumstances of the crime he committed, did not dispute the facts of the case and confirmed the above-described and established by the court circumstances of the case, namely: the dates, times, places of the crime he was charged with, the legal qualification of his actions. He sincerely repented of his actions and asked not to be punished severely. In addition, the defendant said in court that he considered it unnecessary to examine all the evidence, he understands the illegality of his actions and repents of his actions.
Earlier, the Chornomorsk City Court of Odesa Region approved the agreement between the prosecutor and the police investigator accused of taking a bribe on the police officer's plea of guilty. The former police officer was sentenced to five years' imprisonment with a one-year disqualification from working in law enforcement, but the actual term was replaced with a three-year probationary period in agreement with the prosecutor.
