As a reminder, the historical and toponymic commission of the city council recommended renaming Kateryninska Street and Kateryninska Square to European Street and Square, respectively. The decision was subject to public discussion, where Odesa residents supported it. On April 24, during a session of the city council, the renaming was supported by the deputies.
In addition, local authorities announced the renaming of a number of streets in the city. Thus, it was decided to name Zhukovskoho Street Lesia Ukrainka Street, and to return Bunin Street to its historical name of Policiyska Street.
Odesa region ranks third among the southern regions of Ukraine in terms of the number of streets to be renamed as part of the country's decolonization.
Earlier it was reported that the mayor of Odesa signed a decree to rename five streets in the city in honor of the heroes of the war with Russia.
