Odesa Honors Dr. Serhiy Rotar with Memorial Plaque After Tragic Attack

A memorial plaque in honor of Dr. Serhiy Rotar was unveiled at the emergency substation in Odesa, where he worked for 10 years.

This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Administration.

Serhiy Rotaru died on March 15, 2024, when the Russian army attacked Odesa with missiles. Sergiy Rotaru and his colleagues arrived at the site of the attack and began to help the wounded when the Russians struck again.

On the same day, the former first deputy mayor of Odesa , Serhiy Tetyukhin, was killed in a missile attack on Odesa. He had mobilized into the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the former deputy head of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, Oleksandr Hostyshchev, was also killed. He was the commander of the Tsunami battalion.

According to the Southern Defense Forces, a three-story building of a recreational facility was destroyed, and at least 10 private houses, a service station, a low-pressure gas pipeline, ambulances, and fire and rescue vehicles were damaged as a result of a missile attack on the city's civilian infrastructure.

In total, 14 people died and 46 were injured on March 15 last year.

On March 16, the city and region declared a day of mourning. Also on that day, it became known that one of the rescuers who was hospitalized after the attack had died.

In August 2024, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, handed over the keys to a new apartment to the family of paramedic Serhiy Rotar, who died while on duty.

The money for the purchase of a new two-room apartment for the family of the medic was provided by one of the businessmen of Odesa region. The department also reminded that in June, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Serhiy Rotar the Order for Courage, III degree.
