Occupants will continue illegal excavations of the ancient Greek city of Acre in Crimea

The occupation authorities of Crimea have planned to continue illegal excavations of the ancient Greek city of Akra with the help of students from Russia.

According to Holos Kryma, students from the Belgorod National Research University will come to the occupied peninsula to carry out illegal excavations. They will take part in the so-called traditional summer research of the ancient Greek city of Acra, which is also called "Crimean Atlantis."

"This was stated by Viktor Vakhoneev, a senior researcher at the occupation Institute of the History of Material Culture of Ran, PhD in History," the statement said.

At the same time, according to Vakhoneev, this is not the first time that students from Russia have been practicing in the occupied Crimea.

"For example, students from the Higher School of Economics, the Institute of Classical Archeology and Oriental Archeology came to us," he said.

He also emphasized that an expedition to the city of Artesian has already begun, and several universities in the country, including those in Moscow and the Moscow region, are taking part in it. According to him, this is an opportunity for scientists from different regions of the country to exchange knowledge and experience, to talk about scientific developments and sights.

In addition, Vadym Maiko, director of the occupation's Institute of Archeology of the Crimea, said that "Crimean scientists" have planned at least 12 scientific expeditions this year.

Earlier, a Russian archaeologist was suspected of a crime against Ukrainian cultural heritage in Crimea. According to MP Yevheniia Kravchuk, all facts of illegal excavations are properly documented by Ukrainian services within the framework of separate criminal proceedings. So far, it has been established that only one archaeological heritage site, in the period of 2014-2019, has suffered damage worth more than UAH 200 million.

The Crimean prosecutor's office also served a notice of suspicion to an archaeologist from the Russian Hermitage Museum who illegally conducted excavations at the Ukrainian cultural heritage site, the Ancient City of Myrmecium in Kerch.
