Mykolaiv has allocated more than UAH 5 billion for education. A significant portion of the funds will be used to provide meals for students and operate schools and preschools.

The decision was made at a session of the Mykolaiv City Council.

The deputies approved changes to the comprehensive program "Education" for 2025-2027. The purpose of the amendments is to ensure safe and appropriate conditions for the education and upbringing of children in the city's educational institutions.

According to the decision, UAH 5.17 billion is planned to be spent on the operation of general secondary education institutions, including specialized sports classes, and preschools in 2025-2027. Of this amount, UAH 1.72 billion will come from the local budget, UAH 212.7 million from the state budget, and more than UAH 3.2 billion from the educational subvention. In addition, institutions expect to receive 18.5 million from a special fund.

The updated program also includes funding for student meals. UAH 524 million has been allocated to provide lunches for primary school students, of which UAH 157 million is from the local budget and UAH 366.9 million is from the state budget. UAH 665.7 million has been allocated for two meals a day for students of basic and specialized schools, children from privileged categories and those attending day camps, as well as students of specialized sports classes. The local budget will cover UAH 280.8 million, and the state budget will cover UAH 384.8 million.

According to representatives of the Mykolaiv City Council's Education Department, the changes will increase safety in schools and kindergartens, provide modern learning environments, and improve children's nutrition.

Mykolaiv also plans to purchase new school buses to transport students: UAH 3.9 million has been allocated from the city budget. In addition, the city expects to receive additional funding in the form of a state subvention. Although the exact amount of state support for Mykolaiv has not yet been determined, it is likely that it will be part of the UAH 19.7 million that was allocated for the entire Mykolaiv region this year for the purchase of school buses. The new vehicles are to ensure safe and comfortable transportation of schoolchildren and replace outdated buses that have been in use for years.
