In Mykolaiv, the first entrance of a house that was hit by a Russian drone on May 25 will likely have to be dismantled.

This was reported by Suspilne with reference to the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Mykolaiv City Council.

According to preliminary estimates, the level of damage is so severe that restoration is impossible, and residents will be able to apply for housing certificates to purchase new housing.

As of the morning of May 26, rescuers have completed the dismantling of the emergency structures, and utilities continue to clear the rubble and remove debris, including from the roof of the building. The roofs of the second and third entrances also suffered serious damage, as they are burnt out and unusable.

Once the cleanup is complete, emergency repair work is planned: contractors will install a new rafter system, temporarily cover the roof with tarpaulin and then slate to protect the surviving apartments from further damage.

The damaged apartments are being inspected by the commission, after which experts will be engaged to assess the condition of the building. The decision on further actions will be made based on their findings. Meanwhile, the utility company has temporarily covered the broken windows with OSB boards, and people whose apartments are in critical condition have been relocated to city dormitories.

On the night of May 25, the Russian army attacked Mykolaiv with dozens of kamikaze drones. The first explosions were heard in the city around 00:50. City officials confirmed that the city had been subjected to a massive drone attack.

One of the main strikes was the shelling of a five-story building in the Zavodsky district. People were trapped under the rubble. Around six in the morning, rescuers managed to unblock the body of a dead man, a 77-year-old man. Five other people were injured, including a teenager. A girl was rescued from the rubble.

According to local authorities, the night attack damaged infrastructure, office buildings and private homes. Power grids were damaged in different parts of the city. The top two floors of a high-rise building collapsed, and debris hit a neighboring building. Separately, it was reported that one of the kindergartens was damaged, with windows smashed and the roof damaged.

Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal investigation into war crimes (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) over the shelling of the city.
