Mykolaiv decides to restore green space due to damage to plantings

Mykolaiv plans to spend more than three million hryvnias on greening the city. It was decided to restore the city's green fund due to damage and destruction of plantings.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations, citing data from the Prozorro public procurement system.

The customer was the Mykolaiv Parks utility company. The expected cost of the procurement is UAH 3 million 500 thousand. The purpose of the procurement is stated as the renewal of the green fund at the improvement facilities.

Yes, they are going to buy: Large-leaved linden - 12 units, Ginnala maple - 6 units, golden ash - 65 units, common privet - 13,380 units. We also plan to purchase shrubs: Thunberg's barberry - 1028 units, sharp-leaved holly - 48 units, berry yew - 824 units.

The auction is scheduled to start on September 26. The vegetation must be delivered no later than October 31, 2024.

Trees must be at least 4 years old and have a height of 2 meters or more. Shrubs must have a developed root system and correspond to the specified species and be at least 40 centimeters high. The planting material of trees and shrubs to be planted at the landscaping facilities must meet state standards, be well moistened and free from pests and diseases.

It is also planned to create four new nature reserves in Mykolaiv region. The projects are to be developed by the end of 2024. UAH 99,500 was spent on this. It is planned to create four reserves.

These are the Lukianivskyi landscape reserve, the Barativka botanical reserve in the Bashtanka district, and two sites in Mykolaiv: the Mykolaiv Observatory park and the Mykolaiv Botanical Monument and the Mykola Leontovych Frame.

Recently, environmental projects by Mykolaiv youth won a grant from an American foundation. Out of 17 projects submitted to the competition, 9 received funding for implementation. Thanks to these projects, Mykolaiv will become an even greener and more attractive city where everyone can feel the changes for the better. These projects will not only improve the appearance of the city, but also contribute to environmental and social change.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, environmental damage in Mykolaiv region has reached more than UAH 90 billion. This amount includes damage to water and land resources, as well as nature reserves. Calculations are ongoing as the damage is increasing every day.

Fires also cause environmental damage. Thus, compared to last year, the number of fires in natural ecosystems in the region increased by 103 percent. In addition, in the summer season, not only ordinary dead wood but also coniferous forests and fields with grain crops are at risk.
