Mykolaiv court extends the arrest of a suspect in assisting Russia in the war against Ukraine. He could face up to 12 years in prison.

The Central District Court of Mykolaiv has decided to extend the suspect's detention until April 28, 2025 inclusive.

The resident of Mykolaiv region is accused of assisting the aggressor state and subversive activities against Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the suspect, acting intentionally, created a channel on the social network Telegram, which was focused on communication between supporters of separatism and collaborationism living in the region. Through this channel, they exchanged information, news and publications justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.

The suspect, professing pro-Russian ideas, sent messages containing information about the movement of military units in the Mykolaiv region to the enemy agent. He described in detail the movement of Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment that could be used for further attacks on Ukrainian military units.

In particular, one of the cases was recorded when the suspect was on the territory of the Snihuriv branch of the Nibulon JV LLC in the village of Shyroke. There, in response to a question about the deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of Mykolaiv, he sent a message with detailed information about the movement of military units.

In January 2025, within the framework of criminal proceedings, the suspect was served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is accused of assisting the Russian Federation in waging war against Ukraine.

The court praised the decision to impose a measure of restraint in the form of detention on the suspect, without setting bail. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces imprisonment for a term of 8 to 12 years.

At the end of January, the Central District Court of Mykolaiv ruled to seize the suspect's property. The defendant used three cell phones to transmit data on the movement and location of Ukrainian troops.

Earlier in Mykolaiv, a spy was convicted of treason during the war. The defendant worked as an electrician at Nibulon JV LLC and transmitted strategically important information via messenger in correspondence with a representative of the aggressor country. In addition, he installed video cameras for online surveillance of important facilities. The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
