Massive attack on Odesa on June 17 damages 51 buildings

As a result of a massive shelling of Odesa on June 17, 51 residential buildings were damaged in the Prymorsky district.

According to the Odesa City Council, the buildings on Aleksey Markevich and Novoselsky streets sustained the most damage.

Experts recorded:

"Immediately after the attack, emergency crews from theutility companies were quickly deployed. Priority work is underway to seal windows, inspect structures and prepare for roof repairs," the mayor's office added.

They also reported that all victims who lost their homes were provided with temporary accommodation. 2 families are currently staying at the Center for Social and Psychological Assistance of Odesa City Council. All residents have been informed about the possibility of receiving financial compensation from the city for rent.

In the morning of June 17, from 4:30 to 5:00, the armed forces of the Russian Federation launched a massive attack with drone strikes on Odesa. As a result of the attack, a 60-year-old local resident was reported dead in the morning. According to the head of the Odesa regional military administration, Oleh Kiper, a total of 28 people sought medical assistance.

Earlier, Odesa deputies adopted an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers calling for the introduction of a compensation mechanism for damaged housing for citizens who do not have title documents for real estate. As explained at the session, the shelling of Odesa affected houses located along the railroad. They were built back in the Soviet era. Their residents have documents for connection to utility networks and registered residence, but the lack of ownership of their homes prevents them from participating in theeRestoration program.
