Law enforcement officers in Odesa region detained a 36-year-old resident of Berezovsky district on suspicion of trying to misappropriate part of the charitable aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine by bribing a serviceman.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to the investigation, the detainee, acting in collusion with a currently unidentified person, transferred to the military unit medical supplies totaling 80 thousand hryvnias purchased for charity money from the company where he once worked. However, he asked the serviceman not to put the charitable aid on the balance sheet of the military unit for the time being, but to wait for the receipt of funds for the purchase of similar goods from the next benefactor, which he planned to misappropriate.

He offered the military officer a part of the money as a bribe and documentation that would imitate the receipt of aid, which in fact would not be purchased a second time, but would be covered by the first unaccounted-for goods.

The military reported the detainee's criminal intentions to the police, and law enforcement officers documented the crime.

The police detained the man as soon as he handed over the promised bribe and documentation to the serviceman. Investigators seized the money and documents as evidence, as well as the detainee's cell phone with information of interest to the investigation.

The man was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely, providing an undue advantage for failure to commit and commission by an official in the interests of the person providing such advantage of any action using his official position, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons. The maximum penalty for this crime is eight years in prison with or without confiscation of property.

The court imposed on the suspect a custodial measure of restraint with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 363,360.
