On the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag, a large flag was unfurled in Kyiv as a symbol of the people's resilience and struggle for freedom. The participants of the event emphasized that the blue flag with a golden tamga should fly over the liberated Crimea next to the national flag of Ukraine.

This was reported by Suspilne. Crimea.

On Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv, near the monument to Princess Olga, a Crimean Tatar flag measuring 5 by 6 meters was unfurled as a sign of respect for the people who continue to fight for their land. The event was dedicated to the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag, which is celebrated annually on June 26.

During the event, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov reminded that this flag was first raised in 1917, during the proclamation of the Crimean People's Republic. According to him, after the de-occupation of Crimea, this flag, along with the Ukrainian flag, should fly over all regions of the peninsula as a symbol of renewed autonomy, in which the Crimean Tatar people exercise their right to self-determination as part of Ukraine.

This is not just a flag, but a manifestation of historical memory, dignity and struggle," said Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy Halyna Hryhorenko.

She emphasized that the blue cloth with a golden tamga has become a symbol of resilience and resistance, and its colors, like those of the national flag of Ukraine, are a sign of unity and indestructibility.

The Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag was first celebrated in 2010 on the initiative of the representative bodies of the people. The symbolism of the flag itself has a deep meaning: blue is the traditional color of the Turkic peoples, representing purity, sky and freedom. And the golden tamga sign, a historical symbol of Crimean Tatar power, is placed in the upper left corner of the flag.

Historian Gulnara Abdulayeva noted that this flag unites Crimean Tatars around a common idea of freedom and return to their native land.

Recently, the PACE reaffirmed that it does not recognize Crimea as part of Russia and called for not only the Russian leadership, but also the authorities of Belarus and North Korea to be held accountable. The adopted resolution calls for the establishment of a special tribunal, investigation of war crimes and authorizes the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation to support Ukraine.
