The acting mayor of Odesa, Ihor Koval, has appointed a head of the new Department of Veterans Affairs, which was created in the Odesa City Council.

The relevant order was published by the municipality's press service.

The department is headed by Volodymyr Yermakov, who previously headed the municipal institution "Service Office "Veteran Hub". Volodymyr Yermakov was dismissed from the position of the head of the municipal institution by another order.

A separate Department for Veterans Affairs, which oversees the implementation of state and local programs to support defenders, was established in Odesa during a city council session on November 19.

The department includes three divisions - for the implementation of the city's targeted program, state veterans' initiatives, and financial support - as well as five directly subordinate departments: legal, personnel, citizens' appeals, social inspectors, and the front office.

About fifty employees of the Labor Department were to be transferred to the newly created unit. Its key tasks include the organization of social payments, compensation and benefits for veterans and their families, professional adaptation programs, psychological and medical rehabilitation, and events to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.

Instead, at the session of the Odesa City Council on October 30, deputies voted to liquidate the municipal institution"Municipal Guard". This decision was made to reduce budget expenditures and optimize the management of city structures.

On October 16, the new head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, is introduced in Odesa. The day before, President Zelensky announced the creation of the Odesa City Military Administration in an evening address, after which Serhiy Lysak became the main contender for the post.
