Mykolaiv region will be supplied with water by the end of the year. The government has approved the Program of Integrated Water Supply for the Territories Affected by the War.

This was reported by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

We are talking about 9 regions: Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, after Russia carried out an unprecedented terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, the Government promptly allocated funds for the construction of the Ingulets - Pivdenne Reservoir water pipeline. Four lines of the water pipeline are now operational.

The program provides for the construction of water supply systems, reconstruction and overhaul of hydraulic structures, clearing of riverbeds, and construction of artesian wells.

According to the Head of Government, the program should provide Mykolaiv region with water within a year. And by the end of 2025, another 2 million Ukrainians in Dnipropetrovs'k, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Kharkiv regions will have access to water.

Recently, during their session, members of the Mykolaiv City Council approved an additional grant for the city. More than EUR 7 million will be used to restore water supply in Mykolaiv's Korabelnyi district. The grant from the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation NEFCO to finance the "Unrevenue Water" project will allow for the renovation of pipelines in the city's Korabelnyi district, ensuring the modernization of infrastructure.

The city started working on restoring drinking water supply in 2022. About UAH 1.2 billion was allocated from the state budget in 2023 to implement the restoration of the main water pipelines. In April 2024, the Government also allocated UAH 125.5 million from the state budget reserve fund for water supply in Mykolaiv.

The issue of restoring quality water supply for Mykolaiv residents is under the personal control of the President of Ukraine. In addition, the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine and the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine have been entrusted with the issue of contamination of water bodies with explosive ordnance as a result of the hostilities and are to work on this issue together with the local authorities.
