Employees of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District checked the place where, according to eyewitnesses, sewage was dumped into the sea in the resort area of Odesa - Arcadia.
This was reported by the inspectorate's press service.
According to environmentalists, they learned about the incident from a video posted on Telegram channels. The authors of the video claimed that the sewage system was being drained into the sea by the Ithaca nightclub.
Environmentalists on the spot discovered the reconstruction of a stormwater pipe through which water enters the Black Sea, and also took samples of sea water for laboratory tests.
The water samples were sent to the Inspectorate's laboratory for analysis to determine whether the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants were exceeded.
Representatives of law enforcement agencies are also working at the site to establish all the circumstances of the situation.
In November 2024, the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District fined an employee of one of Odesa's utilities for leaking sewage along Almazna Street. The inspectorate emphasized that for the second year in a row, residents of the Kyivskyi district of Odesa complained about sewage discharges on Almazna and Rybalska streets. In 2023, the inspectors set up a commission of representatives of Odesa City Council departments to address this issue. It turned out that wastewater was polluting land plots due to improper operation of the sewage system by one of the utility companies.
In April of the same year, state inspectors of the interdistrict department of state environmental supervision (control) of natural resources in Odesa Oblast discovered and recorded the fact of land pollution due to the discharge of industrial wastewater from the enterprise.
