Systematic preparations for the region's circular defense are underway in Odesa and the region. This includes the development of an extensive network of fortifications and the active involvement of residents in the national resistance program.
This was announced by Denys Nosikov, head of the Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces "South".
According to him, the defense system includes anti-tank ditches, metal "hedgehogs," minefields, engineering barriers and other special structures, some of which are inconspicuous. All of these elements form a multi-level defense designed to make the enemy's advance as difficult as possible. At the same time, detailed characteristics of the defense lines are not disclosed for security reasons. Nosikov emphasized that the system is large-scale and significantly enhances the defense capabilities of the southern region.
At the same time, volunteer formations of territorial communities are being strengthened in the region. They include residents of specific districts who are ready to perform tasks within their localities. These units are not part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but they act in accordance with specific orders and have the right to carry and use weapons.
According to the head of the department, volunteer units are an important defense reserve. Their members include students, pensioners, and citizens who, for various reasons, including health reasons, cannot serve in the regular army but want to join the defense of their communities.
Training of the population for national resistance remains a separate area. The training takes place at training grounds with the participation of experienced instructors, and the number of trained citizens is already in the thousands. In the event of an aggravation of the situation, they will be able to quickly defend Odesa and the region.
Nosikov also emphasized that the defense measures are aimed at ensuring that any attempts to advance by the enemy are doomed to failure, and that speculation that "Odesa is a 'Russian city' or something similar will change over time.
To mark the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, new stands with the names of Ukraine's fallen defenders were opened on the Heroes' Alley in Shevchenko Park. So far, 25 new stands have been added, but the families of the fallen insist that such alleys should be set up in all districts of the city.
