Crimean MP legitimizes the occupation of the peninsula

A former representative of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was found guilty of high treason. The court sentenced him to 13 years in prison and ordered the confiscation of all his property.

This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The investigation proved that in 2014 the convict actively supported the occupation of the peninsula by voting for a number of illegal resolutions, including the 'referendum' and 'independence' of Crimea. of Crimea. These actions were aimed at creating the illusion of legitimacy of the Russian annexation. After the seizure of the peninsula, the defendant continued to cooperate with the enemy and became a deputy of the occupation State Council from the 'Fair Russia' party. In addition to the prison term, the traitor is subject to indefinite sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council.

On October 27, 2025, a panel of judges of the Criminal Chamber of the Kyiv Court of Appeal considered an appeal filed by the defense on behalf of the accused Oleksandr Antonenkov. The appeal was against the verdict delivered by the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv on June 25, 2024.

According to the said verdict, Oleksandr Antonenkov, a former deputy of the Sevastopol City Council of the VI convocation, was found guilty of committing high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The court found that Antonenkov, ignoring the requirements of the Constitution, voted for the adoption of an illegal decision 'On participation in the all-Crimean referendum' on March 06, 2014 at an extraordinary meeting of the Sevastopol City Council. His actions were aimed at assisting representatives of the Russian Federation in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine.
