On December 17-18, specialists of the environmental control unit of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern Region conducted a raid in Odesa to monitor compliance with current legislation during the sale of New Year's conifers.

According to the press service of the Environmental Inspectorate, the inspectors examined the places of sale of conifers for the presence of accompanying documents and special labeling confirming the legality of the origin of the products in accordance with the established requirements.

The results showed that the sale of New Year's conifers is carried out in compliance with the law - no violations were found.

"Such measures are aimed at preserving forest resources, preventing illegal logging, ensuring environmental safety and increasing the responsibility of sellers," the inspectorate emphasized.

Christmas trees in Odesa began to be sold in the first decade of December, with prices ranging from 250-300 hryvnias to 5-7 thousand, depending on the size of the tree, the type of pine, fir or spruce, and the country of origin - Danish or Norwegian trees are much more expensive than Ukrainian ones.

The city also lit the main Christmas tree in Odesa on December 6, St. Nicholas Day, with a concert and performance by headliner Mila Nitich.

In addition to Odesa, a Christmas tree was lit on December 6 in Chornomorsk. In Kyiv, the country's main Christmas tree was lit on December 5. It is a 16-meter-high artificial tree decorated in pastel colors. It is decorated with 4.5 thousand toys and is illuminated with garland.

Last year, foresters in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions grew 50,500 fir trees for sale, which is significantly less than the total amount grown in Vinnytsia region.

In particular, 35.3 thousand trees were grown in Odesa region, and 15.2 thousand in Mykolaiv region. In Kherson and other occupied regions, no Christmas trees were grown for sale in 2024. However, more than 1 million conifers were grown on special plantations in 2024.
