Business in the South of Ukraine: how many companies opened and closed in 2024

Analysts have noted significant changes in the dynamics of registration and closure of companies in the South of Ukraine, particularly in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.

This is stated in a study by YC.Market.

In 2024, 1,614 new companies were registered in Odesa region, 604 in Mykolaiv region, and 92 in Kherson region. Odesa region remains an important center of business activity in the region, demonstrating stable growth.

In total, just over 26 thousand new companies were registered in Ukraine, which is 2.7% less than in 2023 (26.7 thousand).

Most companies were registered last year in Kyiv - 9.2 thousand, Dnipropetrovska oblast - 2.2 thousand, and Lvivska oblast - 2.1 thousand. However, if we analyze the dynamics of company start-ups in 2024, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytskyi oblasts became the leaders in terms of growth in the share of newly established companies in Ukraine.

At the same time, amid economic instability, some companies ceased operations. Over the year, 282 companies closed in Odesa region, 99 in Mykolaiv region, and 32 in Kherson region. At the same time, the rate of liquidation of enterprises in Odesa region decreased by 1.2 percentage points, which may indicate a stabilization of the business environment.

In total, almost 3.3 thousand companies ceased operations in Ukraine in 2024. The largest number of closures was in Kyiv (528) and Dnipropetrovska oblast (395).

Meanwhile, in 2024, 323 criminal proceedings over raiding were recorded in Ukraine, which is 11% less than in 2023 and 1.8 times less than in 2021. Most of these cases are cases of document forgery, accounting for 74% of the total.
