At the Mayaky-Udobne-Palanka checkpoint in Odesa Oblast, a 62-year-old resident of Kyiv region offered a bribe to a border guard of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi detachment for unimpeded travel to Moldova.
According to the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during the document check, the servicemen found that the man was temporarily restricted from leaving Ukraine due to non-payment of alimony.
The total amount of the debt exceeds one million hryvnias. In order to cross the state border without hindrance, the man offered the serviceman USD 5 thousand in unlawful benefit.
The border guard refused the bribe and immediately reported the offense to the competent authorities.
A report was sent to the National Police on the grounds of a crime under Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Offer, promise or giving of an unlawful benefit to an official".
Earlier, the Kyiv District Court of Odesa fined a serviceman for attempting to bribe a patrol policeman. The attempt to bribe the patrol policeman for UAH 2,000 resulted in a fine of UAH 17,000.
In March, the Khadzhybeyskyi District Court of Odesa approved a plea agreement on offering an unlawful benefit between a Moldovan citizen and a prosecutor. The man admitted that he had tried to bribe an official and was sentenced to four years' imprisonment without confiscation of property. However, under an agreement with the prosecutor, he was released from serving his sentence with a probationary period of one year.
The Kyiv District Court of Odesa also sentenced the driver to a fine of UAH 34,000 for attempting to bribe patrol policemen with one hundred US dollars. The patrol policemen stopped the convict and, while checking his documents, detected signs of alcohol intoxication - impaired movements and speech. So the police offered the driver to undergo a test for alcohol intoxication, but he refused, and the police began to draw up a report.
