The Central District Court of Mykolaiv found Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Galich guilty of high treason.
This became known from the relevant court verdict.
Galich, who had the call sign 'Chanel', was detained in March 2025 on the outskirts of the village of Kopanky, Izium district, Kharkiv region. He was captured in a Russian military uniform while performing a combat mission. The investigation established that the accused lived in Russia and, after serving a sentence for banditry in September 2024, decided to join the Russian army, signing a contract in Moscow to receive higher "lifting" payments.
The accused confirmed that he participated in hostilities in Luhansk and Kharkiv regions. His main tasks were related to logistics, including the delivery of food, water and ammunition to the positions, as well as visual surveillance of air and ground space. In January 2025, Halych was fulfilling an order to take up positions near the village of Rayhorodka, Svatove district, Luhansk region.
In January 2025, Galich and a friend recorded a video message to the Russian Prosecutor's Office accusing their former commander, call sign 'Parovoz', of extortion under the threat of death. In addition, at the time of his detention, Galich was already considered missing from his place of service since February 5, 2025, as evidenced by announcements about his search in Telegram channels.
At the court hearing, the convicted person stated that he did not regret participating in hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but allegedly had no intention of re-signing a contract in the event of an exchange as a prisoner of war.
Galich was sentenced to 15 years in prison for high treason and voluntary participation in the armed forces of the aggressor state.
