Ukrposhta Leases Historic Odesa Main Post Office Building for ₴360.6K

Ukrposhta has announced its intention to lease the building of the Main Post Office on Sadova Street in Odesa.

The announcement was published in the Prozorro.Sale system.

The premises offered for lease are 4,507.3 square meters, including 409.8 common areas on the first and second floors of the three-story administrative building. The premises are suitable for use and require minor repairs. The building is located in the historical part of the city.

The Odesa Main Post Office is a historic building in Odesa, a cultural heritage site. It was built in 1893-1895 by the architects Volodymyr Kharlamov (1860-1907) and Vladyslav Dombrovskyi, the contractor was titheman A. Dorofeiev. The site for the construction was chosen by a specially created commission. The site overlooked Sadova and Koblevska streets, and with this in mind, a complex consisting of two buildings was constructed: the post office was located on the side of Sadova street, and the house of postal and telegraph employees on Koblevska street. The post office building was designed to combine all communication services (post, telegraph, telephone) in one complex.

In April, in an interview with Intent, former director of the Odesa National Art Museum Oleksandra Kovalchuk said that the museum was ready to receive the Main Post Office as a second building.

"However, we understand that the cost of heating and restoration needs are very large funds that the museum does not have today," she said at the time.

The starting price of the building lease is currently 360.6 thousand hryvnias.

In October 2024, on September 30, the Odesa Main Post Office, located at 10 Sadova Street, moved to a new location. At the time, Artem Bondarenko, director of network development for the Odesa region of Ukrposhta, explained that the premises were too large, and the employees themselves used less than half of the building, about 48%. In addition, Ukrposhta opened a new branch at 11 Sofiivska Street.

In January 2022, the Odesa Directorate of Ukrposhta held a tender to develop design and estimate documentation for "Repair and restoration work on the main facade of the building at 10 Sadova Street, Odesa." The winner of the tender was Hiprograd Plus Limited Liability Company, which agreed to work for UAH 1 million 79.5 thousand.
