Two foreigners were shot dead in a car in Mykolaiv

A shooting occurred in Mykolaiv, resulting in the deaths of two people; a third person was taken into custody by the police. 

According to the Mykolaiv Regional Police, the incident took place on Heroes of Ukraine Avenue on Tuesday, June 30.

According to eyewitnesses, several shots were fired while an Opel was driving, after which the vehicle pulled into a traffic-controlled intersection. According to preliminary reports, three foreign nationals were in the car.

Two men were killed in the shooting. Police detained the third person involved in the incident. A firearm was seized from the car.

Police secured the scene and conducted initial investigative actions. Police investigators, forensic experts, and operatives worked at the scene. All circumstances of the incident are being established. The legal classification of the incident is being determined.

 Mykolaiv Oblast tops the list of regions with the highest number of lost and stolen firearms—over 169,000 units are currently missing. Meanwhile, over 34,000 such cases were recorded in the Kherson region, and nearly 27,500 in the Odesa region.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old citizen of Kyrgyzstan will stand trial in Mykolaiv on charges of attempting to assassinate an officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). The man was recruited by the FSB in Kyrgyzstan and agreed to carry out missions for the Russian intelligence service directed against Ukraine.

Earlier, in the Mykolaiv District of Mykolaiv Oblast, law enforcement officers detained a serviceman suspected of murdering two fellow soldiers. The tragedy occurred on the night of May 12 at his duty station.
