A 28-year-old Kyrgyz citizen accused of attempting to assassinate an officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will be tried in Mykolaiv.

According to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the man was recruited by the FSB in Kyrgyzstan and agreed to carry out the Russian special service's tasks against Ukraine.

After receiving instructions from his handlers, he arrived in Ukraine and initially settled in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region. There, according to law enforcement officers, he purchased several cell phones and SIM cards for secret communication with FSB representatives.

Later, the accused went to Kyiv. There, he received the coordinates of a cache containing a pistol with ammunition. The curator also gave him a photo of the future victim and information about the location and time of the Ukrainian intelligence officer.

At the end of November 2025, the man was detained while attempting to assassinate a DIU serviceman. During the detention, law enforcement officers seized weapons, ammunition, and a cell phone with evidence of contacts with representatives of the Russian special service.

The accused is charged with completed attempted premeditated murder committed on the order and for mercenary motives, aiding the aggressor state, and illegal handling of weapons and ammunition.

The man is currently in custody. If proven guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Earlier, a prosecutor from the Rostov region was first notified of suspicion for persecuting a Ukrainian prisoner of war. This is the case of a GUR special forces officer who was illegally convicted by the occupiers, ignoring international law. According to the investigation, in 2024, the suspect carried out illegal criminal prosecution of a serviceman - a special forces officer of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, who was captured off the coast of occupied Crimea.
