In Mykolaiv region, a soldier shot dead two colleagues

In Mykolaiv district of Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers detained a serviceman suspected of killing two fellow soldiers. The tragedy occurred on the night of May 12 at the place of service.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast Police Department.

According to the police, a verbal conflict arose between the servicemen while they were drinking alcohol together. During the quarrel, the 35-year-old soldier took the automatic weapon assigned to him and opened fire on two men aged 58 and 38.

The soldiers died at the scene from their gunshot wounds.

Investigators, operatives and forensic experts were working at the scene. Law enforcement officers seized an AK-74 rifle and spent shell casings, which were sent for expert examination.

The 35-year-old suspect was taken to the police station and detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region served the man a notice of suspicion under Article 115 (2) (1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - the intentional murder of two people.

The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of 15 years in prison or life imprisonment. The court will soon choose a preventive measure against the suspect.

Recently, in Mykolaiv, a court remanded in custody a serviceman suspected of trying to bribe an official to avoid responsibility for leaving his military unit without permission. According to the investigation, the man offered the officer thousands of dollars for several days in a row to stop the search.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv region topped the anti-rating of regions by the number of lost and stolen weapons - more than 169,000 units are wanted. At the same time, Kherson region recorded more than 34 thousand such cases, and Odesa region - almost 27.5 thousand.
