Police investigators have opened two criminal proceedings over an attack on police officers, during which a chain was used to break the window of a patrol car.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

The police said that on May 14, when district police officers were detaining a citizen who had left a military unit without permission, a group of people began to obstruct the police. Aggressive passers-by blocked the movement of the police car, preventing the man from being taken to the military law enforcement service. During the conflict, the citizens physically resisted and damaged the police car.

Investigators registered this incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 3 of Article 342 (Resistance to a representative of the authorities, a law enforcement officer) and Part 4 of Article 296 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Under the current legislation, such actions are punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years.

The 33-year-old man, who was put on the wanted list for leaving the military unit without permission, has now been detained and handed over to representatives of the Military Law Enforcement Service.

The offender who damaged the official vehicle with a chain was also detained. Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. In particular, other persons who damaged the official car and resisted police officers are being identified.

Earlier, the spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn , said that since the beginning of 2026, 14 cases of attacks on military personnel of the alert groups of territorial recruitment and social support centers have been recorded in Odesa region, including with the use of knives, firearms and gas.
