Russian troops have attacked a compressor station in Odesa region, which supplies gas to Europe, with drones. The strike is aimed at undermining the energy security of Ukraine and the EU and caused a sharp reaction from the Ukrainian authorities.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

On the night of August 6, 2025, Russia carried out a targeted attack on a gas infrastructure facility - a compressor station of the Ukrainian GTS Operator in Odesa region, near the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

This compressor station was part of the route connecting Greek LNG terminals with Ukrainian gas storage facilities via the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline. It has already been used to deliver American liquefied natural gas and test volumes of gas from Azerbaijan.

At night, the equipment responsible for these deliveries was attacked by dozens of attack drones. The ministry's press service noted that this strike is a targeted attack on civilian energy infrastructure aimed at Ukraine' s energy security, as well as against cooperation with Azerbaijan, the United States and European partners, which threatens the stable life of Ukrainians and all Europeans.

Experts are currently working at the scene to assess the extent of the damage.

According to Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Energy of Ukraine, this attack is a clear warning to the whole of Europe.

"This is a clear and understandable signal for the whole of Europe, which plans to completely abandon Russian natural gas in 2027," the minister said.

The minister also said that the Russian drone attack on the compressor station shows that Moscow is ready to do anything to disrupt gas supplies to Europe and destroy its energy independence. If Russia is not stopped, European facilities will also be at risk, so it must be held accountable for these crimes.

On the night of August 6, Russian kamikaze drones attacked Odesa region, with explosions in various districts, including Izmail.

Despite the air defense system, the gas infrastructure was damaged - a fire broke out and 2,500 customers were left without gas. Law enforcement officers are recording another Russian war crime against civilians.
