Odesa law enforcement officers have sent to court a case against a 49-year-old man for abuse of influence.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.

The investigation found that the resident of Odesa district promised his client to facilitate his employment in one of the local military units in exchange for a monetary reward, which would be the basis for terminating the trial of the indictment for serious crimes in connection with mobilization to the army. The offender also guaranteed that the man would serve formally and would not be sent to the combat zone.

In return for a cash reward of $35,000, the man promised to organize the resolution of these issues by influencing officials of one of the district territorial centers for recruitment and social support, a military unit and the judiciary.

The police detained the dealer at a gas station when he was receiving the agreed amount from an Odesa resident. Investigators seized the money and the suspect's cell phone and arrested them.

Based on the evidence collected, the man is accused of obtaining an unlawful benefit for himself for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such a benefit.

The court imposed on him a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 242,240, which he used. The indictment was sent to court. The man faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.

Earlier, the Primorskyi Court of Odesa approved a plea agreement between the driver of the training vessel unit of the Institute of Naval Forces of the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" and the prosecutor regarding the bribe taking.
