The Verkhovna Rada has supported a request to the president to award the title of Hero of Ukraine to Andriy Parubiy posthumously.

This was reported by MPs.

A total of 230 MPs voted in favor of the decision. This was made possible by a petition on the president's website, which quickly gained the required 25,000 votes. The signatories of the petition noted that Parubiy has dedicated his life to serving Ukraine, protecting its sovereignty and democratic values. They emphasized his key role in ensuring the security of Maidan during the Revolution of Dignity.

As a reminder, Andriy Parubiy, the former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, was killed by an unknown assailant on August 30 in the Sykhiv district of Lviv. The information about his death was confirmed personally by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as by the National Police, which reported the shooting and the victim's death on the spot.

Andriy Parubiy, a native of Lviv region, was a well-known Ukrainian politician and statesman who held a number of high positions, including the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from 2016 to 2019 and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine in 2014.

During his political career, he was elected three times as a Member of Parliament, representing various political forces such as Our Ukraine, Batkivshchyna, People's Front, and European Solidarity.

During his life, he was repeatedly targeted for attacks. In particular, in December 2014, an unknown man threw a grenade in his direction near the Kyiv Hotel in Kyiv. Although the attacker missed, he threw another grenade at law enforcement officers during the pursuit, injuring one of them.
