Romanian politician Kelin Georgescu, known for his pro-Russian policies, who also ran for president of Romania but was denied a chance to run after a scandal, said he was suspending his political activities.

He said this while speaking on the Realitatea Plus TV channel.

"The presidential elections in Romania in 2025 are over. In view of this, I have decided to stop my active participation in the political process... From now on, I prefer to be a passive observer of public life," said Calin Georgescu.

In March, the Central Electoral Bureau of Romania decided to reject the candidacy of Kelin Georgescu in the presidential election, which caused a clash between his supporters and local law enforcement officers.

The Constitutional Court of Romania then decided to cancel the results of the first round of the presidential election held on December 1. The winner of the first round, Kelin Georgescu, criticized the court's decision, calling it a coup d'etat.

On December 9, 2024, investigators seized seven million dollars from Bogdan Peschir, who financed the campaign of Calin Georgescu on TikTok, after searches that lasted all night at his residence in Brasov.

Romania's Supreme National Defense Council released declassified intelligence. They claim that Kelin Georgescu benefited from a coordinated social media campaign, most likely organized by a state actor.

Earlier, the Constitutional Court of Romania on Friday decided to cancel the results of the first round of the presidential election held on December 1. The winner of the first round, Kelin Georgescu, criticized the court's decision, calling it a coup d'etat.

At the end of November, the Central Electoral Bureau of Romania began a court-ordered recount of all ballots cast in the first round of the presidential election, following accusations that the winner, Kelin Gheorghesek, had illegally used tiktok to boost his campaign.

Meanwhile, the second round of the Romanian presidential election ended with the victory of Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan, who was supported by 6 million 168.6 thousand voters, or 53.6%.
