Police detained a driver in the Bolhrad district of Odesa region on suspicion of trying to smuggle a man liable for military service abroad.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.
The illegal actions of the 20-year-old resident of Bolhradskyi district were exposed and documented by operatives and investigators of the territorial police unit together with border guards, with the involvement of the patrol police response sector.
Law enforcement officers stopped a VAZ car driven by a man on the outskirts of Bolhrad. The car was occupied by a 30-year-old resident of Dnipropetrovs'k region who intended to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine. The driver, bypassing checkpoints, was carrying a passenger at night towards the border with the Republic of Moldova.
Investigators initiated proceedings over the incident under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. All the circumstances of the crime are being established and evidence is being collected to serve the carrier a notice of suspicion of facilitating the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
Border guards drew up a report under Part 1 of Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses against the man who tried to illegally leave Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in Odesa, a man was tried for disclosing confidential information related to mobilization activities and the placement of checkpoints in the city. Taking into account the defendant's repentance, his voluntary donation to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the amount of UAH 50 thousand and other mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced him to 5 years in prison with the possibility of suspended sentence.
