Odesa resident sentenced to 5 years in prison for disseminating data on TCC checkpoints

In Odesa, a man was tried for disclosing confidential information related to mobilization activities and the placement of checkpoints in the city.

The verdict was passed by the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa.

According to the case file, the accused is a citizen of Ukraine, a native of the village of Burlacha Balka, Chornomorsk district.

According to the investigation, in the period from May to August 2024, the man, using a mobile phone, transmitted information about the places and dates of mobilization activities in the WhatsApp messenger. With the help of a private group in the messenger, he disseminated information about checkpoints and mobilization activities that posed a threat to national security and defense capabilities of the country.

The court, having considered the circumstances of the case, concluded that the actions of the accused are qualified under Part 1 of Art. 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as obstruction of the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law. The defendant fully pleaded guilty, stating that he did not realize criminal liability for his actions.

Taking into account the defendant's remorse, his voluntary donation to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the amount of UAH 50,000 and other mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with the possibility of a suspended sentence. The prosecutor also filed a motion for a special confiscation of the mobile phone that was the instrument of the crime.

Meanwhile, a man from Odesa managed to appeal in court against an administrative fine of 17 thousand hryvnias for not having a military ID. And the Suvorov District Court of Odesa sentenced a person liable for military service for evading conscription during mobilization.

Also in Odesa region, a sentence was passed on a public utility worker for ignoring a summons. The man has to pay a fine of 5100 hryvnias.
