Law enforcement officers have served two Odesa residents with a notice of suspicion of extortion and receiving an unlawful benefit for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform public functions.

According to the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, the suspects promised a conscript to assist in illegally obtaining a draft deferment in exchange for a reward.

They assured him that they had connections in the district center for recruitment and social support and would be able to provide him with documents to care for his father, which would give grounds for postponing mobilization.

The defendants demanded USD 11 thousand for their services. They were detained during the transfer of the first part of the illegal benefit in the amount of USD 5 thousand near one of the residential areas of Odesa.

During the search, the law enforcement officers found documents, including certificates of the military qualification commission, medical reports and certificates of deferment issued for persons subject to military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint against the suspects is currently being decided.

Earlier, the police detained a man in Odesa who demanded $25,000 from a man for assistance in employment with the Security Service of Ukraine. Investigators served the suspect a notice of suspicion. He faces up to eight years in prison. According to the investigation, a 33-year-old resident of Odesa demanded $25 thousand from a young man who intended to be employed by the Security Service of Ukraine.

Earlier, law enforcement officers served a notice of suspicion of influence peddling to the commander of a security platoon of one of the district territorial centers of recruitment and social support in Odesa and his accomplice.
