The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property to an Odesa resident convicted of high treason committed under martial law.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Prosecutors in courts of all instances proved that the convict, with the aim of harming the defense and state security of Ukraine, from April 2022 to July 2022, using a messenger, transmitted information to representatives of the special services of the Russian Federation about the deployment of the military in Odesa region, the work of the seaports of Odesa and Chornomorsk, as well as the presence of military equipment on their territory.
In October 2022, he purchased and installed two cameras near the railroad tracks to record trains moving military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for further transmission of this information to the enemy.
The Criminal Court of Cassation as part of the Supreme Court of Ukraine agreed with the prosecutor's arguments regarding the fairness of the measure of restraint for the convict. The man pleaded guilty to the charged crime, but during the trial he showed a complete lack of regret for his actions. He is currently serving his court-ordered sentence.
Also in August 2024, the Odesa Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of Hennadii Herman, who was found guilty of high treason. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property for collaborating with Russian special services. Thus, the former head of the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor's Office, Hennadiy Herman, will spend the rest of his life behind bars, as his sentence was upheld by the Court of Appeal without change.
In February of the same year, the Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa found the former head of the Northern Correctional Colony No. 90 guilty of treason and sentenced him to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
