Odesa Regional Council Supports Appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada to Preserve the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy"

Deputies of the Odesa Regional Council considered and approved as a basis a draft decision to appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to prevent the negative consequences of the reorganization of maritime education and to prevent the liquidation of the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy".

According to the deputy Oleksandr Akhmerov, the academy's cadets arrived at the meeting of the regional council to support this draft decision. He also offered to give the floor to long-distance captain Nezavitin, who expressed his position on the future of maritime education in Ukraine.

MP Urbanskyi took the floor and expressed a categorical position on the inadmissibility of changes that could threaten the future of the Odesa Maritime Academy. According to him, this institution has considerable authority not only in Ukraine but also in the world, remaining a leading center of maritime education.

After discussion, the deputies adopted the draft decision as a basis.

Before that, a scandal erupted in the Odesa Regional Council during the consideration of the draft decision "Report on the Activities of the Head of the Odesa Regional Council for 2024". Deputy Yulia Chukhalo was sharply criticized, stating that "the document is not a report, but a farce."

According to her, the salary of the regional council staff amounted to 42 million hryvnias, of which 25 million were spent on bonuses and allowances. She also emphasized that the salaries of the staff increased by 10 million hryvnias over the year. According to Yulia Chukhalo, the most shameful thing is that 354 orders of the council chairman have not been published.

Hryhoriy Didenko, chairman of the regional council, replied that salaries are calculated in accordance with the current legislation.
