Public discussions will be held in Odesa to commemorate the fallen defenders of Ukraine. Citizens will be invited to define a single unified model of a tombstone for the military.

This was reported by the press service of the Odesa City Council.

The event is scheduled for April 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Great Hall of the City Council's administrative building at 1 Birzhova Square. Registration of participants on the day of the event will start at 10:30.

Pre-registration will be open from March 25 to April 2. To participate, you need to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs of the City Council in person, by e-mail or by phone, submitting an application with basic personal data and contacts.

Residents of Odesa, as well as internally displaced persons who actually live in the city, are invited to participate in the discussion. Participants must have an identity document, and IDPs must have a relevant certificate.

Public consultations are held in accordance with the order of the acting mayor Igor Koval of March 23, 2026. Based on their results, a draft decision of the executive committee will be prepared, taking into account the position of the community, and the final report will be published on the official website of the city council.

According to the press service, the discussion is organized by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and representatives of relevant city structures and municipal institutions will also be involved. An emergency medical team will be on duty during the event.

As Iryna Orlyanska, co-founder of the Family of Angels of Light NGO, previously told Intent, the discussion turned out to be tense when the date of the public hearing was set.

She said that the meeting lasted four hours and almost ended with the participants breaking their voices as it resembled a marketplace with mutual shouting. Despite this, she said, they managed to get the city authorities to agree to hold public hearings on the headstones, although they initially insisted that such hearings were not needed.

In August 2025, Odesa developed a project for a memorial in honor of the soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine, which is planned to be not only a place of remembrance but also a space where everyone can feel the depth of gratitude and respect for those who died for Ukraine.
