Odesa region became the first in the South and the fourth in Ukraine in terms of birth rate

Odesa region is ranked fourth in Ukraine and first among the southern regions in terms of the number of newborns in the first half of 2025.

According to the analysts of the Opendatabot platform, 6,177 babies were born in the region in six months.

In the Mykolaiv region, 2,241 newborns were registered during this period, and 196 in the Kherson region.

The largest number of babies were registered in Kyiv - 9,947, or 12% of the total number of newborns. The second place goes to Lviv region with 8,282 (10%) babies. Dnipropetrovs'k region rounds out the top three with 6,670 (8%).

At the same time, fewer children are born in regions close to the front line. In Donetsk region, the birth rate has almost halved over the year (-47%), in Kherson region - by 11%, and in Chernihiv region - by 10%.

In total, 86,795 babies were born in six months. Analysts noted that the birth rate during the war has stabilized, as it is almost the same as in the same period last year. Back then, 87,655 little citizens were born in the first half of the year.

Odesa region also ranked fourth in terms of mortality - 16,251 deaths in six months. In total, 249 thousand people died in Ukraine during this period, and currently there are three deaths per newborn. This figure has remained unchanged over the past five years. Thus, the country's population is decreasing by more than 300 thousand annually.

In 2025, the Dnipropetrovs'k region is ranked first in this indicator, with 27,120 deaths. Among the anti-leaders are Kyiv with 18,114 deaths and Kharkiv region with 17,694 deaths.
