Odesa Prosecutor's Office Launches Murder Investigation After Activist Shot Dead

Under the procedural supervision of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation into a contract murder has been launched.

This was reported by the Odesa Prosecutor's Office.

Investigative and operational measures to solve the crime are currently underway. In particular, video footage from surveillance cameras in the area of the murder and the attacker's routes are being analyzed. The investigation is under the personal control of the leadership of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office. The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Odesa Oblast National Police.

According to the investigation, at about 10:30 a.m. in the center of Odesa, an unidentified person fired several shots at Demian Hanul. He died on the spot from his injuries.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko also said that he would take the investigation into the murder of Demian Hanul under his personal control.

"An investigative team has been formed with the central office of the National Police, and it has already left for Odesa. A regiment of the National Police has also been sent. I am taking personal control of the investigation and solving of this crime," Klymenko said in the Verkhovna Rada.

The shooter has not yet been found. His photo was released by the police with a request to provide any information about his whereabouts.

Earlier, Hanul said that people posing as military personnel tried to kill him.

The activist said that he was called to a meeting by the military to find out how he could help them. But when he arrived at the meeting, in a city cafe, the interlocutors began to behave aggressively and accused him of helping different units besides theirs with cars.
