Odesa Neurologist Caught Offering Military Service Dismissal for 3,000 UAH

In Odesa, a neurologist at a private medical institution was caught taking a bribe for "dismissal" from military service.

This was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the doctor assured the soldier that she could "resolve the issue" with members of the military medical commission, create the necessary medical history and organize long-term treatment, which would be the basis for discharge.

For her "services," the doctor asked for $4,500, of which she demanded $3,000 as an advance payment. She was detained right in her office while receiving the first installment of the money.

Law enforcement officers are identifying other possible participants in the scheme. Currently, the doctor has been served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence).

The investigation is being conducted by the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa.

Earlier, the State Bureau of Investigation reported exposing an organized group of doctors who helped healthy men of conscription age obtain medical documents that allowed the medical and social expert commission to declare them unfit for service.

In early February, the head of the Odesa consultative polyclinic department of one of the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was accused of corruption and served with a notice of suspicion.

As it became known, the doctor promised a conscript to issue a health certificate for a fee and subsequent submission and approval of a second-group disability to the MSEC. This would have allowed the man to receive a deferral from mobilization and travel abroad without hindrance.

A doctor of a medical institution was also detained in Odesa. She is suspected of receiving bribes to confirm her disability.
