Occupants plan to turn Kherson into an environmental disaster zone

Hackers have intercepted orders from the Russian military confirming the Kremlin's plans not only to destroy Kherson but also to cause a large-scale environmental disaster. The documents indicate an intention to force the Dnipro River, seize the Korabel neighborhood, and simultaneously intensify attacks on energy and water treatment infrastructure.

The terrorist country continues to turn Kherson into a center of daily terror, using artillery and drones. At the same time, there is information that the occupiers are preparing an operation that could lead to a large-scale environmental disaster in the Black Sea and affect the EU countries.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian troops are preparing to strike oil depots, chemical warehouses and port infrastructure in the Kherson region near the Dnipro Delta. If these plans are realized, toxic substances will be released into the sea and carried by currents to the coasts of Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. Experts warn that even a localized leak of oil products or chemicals can cause massive fish kills, algae poisoning, and long-term water pollution. This paralyzes ports, fishing, and shipping, effectively bringing the region's economic life to a standstill.

The hacker group of the 256th Cyber Assault Division intercepted orders from the Russian military that confirm the Kremlin's plans not only to destroy the city but also to provoke an environmental disaster. Documents from the mail of Major Oleksiy Yatsenko of the 98th Airborne Division indicate an intention to cross the Dnipro River and seize the Korabel neighborhood, while intensifying attacks on energy and water treatment infrastructure.

Since the de-occupation of Kherson, Russian troops have been systematically attacking the city. In October alone, more than nine thousand attacks by FPV drones were recorded. The occupiers fire up to 1,600 artillery shells daily, and the use of aerial bombs has doubled. Civilian objects are being targeted: residential buildings, minibuses, ambulances and humanitarian missions are regularly under fire.

ISW analysts emphasize that Russia does not have sufficient forces to completely capture Kherson, but is trying to make the city uninhabitable. The destruction of sewage treatment plants and energy facilities could trigger a "domino effect": water supply shutdowns, sewage overflows, and untreated sewage flows into the Dnipro River. This threatens the unique ecosystem of the Dnipro-Bug estuary, and the poisoned water could quickly reach the Black Sea coast of NATO countries.

Ukraine has already informed its international partners of Russia's intentions to artificially provoke a crisis in order to block the operation of the sea corridor and increase political pressure on European states.

At the same time, the EU plans to allocate 250 million euros to support Ukrainian scientists and restore the Black Sea ecosystem. Part of this money will go to direct grants for researchers, and the rest will go to competitive projects that encourage Ukrainian institutions to participate in European research programs.
