The new menu, designed for Mykolaiv schools, has already been implemented in six schools following complaints from parents and students. In all other schools in the city, the updated menu will be introduced on November 3.
This was reported to Suspilne by Vira Zgama, a technologist at the municipal production enterprise for organizing catering in educational institutions.
The technologist said that the new dishes were developed within the norms specified in the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 305, but with the obligatory consideration of the proposals of the parental committee. The main request was to simplify the menu: "Make the menu simpler - not so that it says 'mackenzie' or 'scramble', but something simpler," she quotes the parents' wishes.
Accordingly, the new menu replaced complex names with simple ones. For example, instead of 'scramble', children get 'boiled pasta with butter, hard cheese (15 grams) and boiled egg'. The less popular carrot casserole was replaced with a cocoa gratin, which became more attractive to children due to the combination of a cocoa layer, white cheese and cherry sauce.
In addition, the number of potato dishes was increased (twice a week) and the size of salad portions for older students (from 100 to 120 grams), although the amount of butter in the portions remained unchanged (2 grams). Lyceum #55 chef Maya Bilyk confirmed the positive dynamics: children began to eat buckwheat porridge and cutlets better.
Tenth-grader Artem also noted improvements, such as removing raisins from sauerkraut. In general, Bilyk said, there is less waste because the children are eating better.
