Mykolaiv is preparing to launch the production of construction materials based on recycled waste left over from Russian shelling. The raw materials will be taken from a construction waste recycling plant that has been operating in the city for two months.

This was stated by the mayor Oleksandr Senkevych in his report.

The initiative was made possible with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which donated specialized equipment. According to the mayor, almost 3.7 thousand tons of debris have been processed so far.

According to the official, the next step will be to launch its own production of cinder blocks, pressed bricks and stormwater system elements. These materials will be used to rebuild the city's infrastructure. The mayor also said that he plans to report on the expansion of this initiative by the end of the year.

It was planned to launch a modern construction waste recycling plant in Mykolaiv in the spring. The construction site was allocated on Bashtanske Highway and transferred to the balance sheet of the municipal enterprise ELU Avtodorog.

The total construction budget amounted to UAH 40 million. Of this amount, UAH 10 million was allocated from the local budget in 2024 for the purchase of materials, and another UAH 30 million in 2025 to continue the project.

In addition, in December 2024, Mykolaiv received the first batch of equipment for the future plant, including a trommel, a machine for sorting inert materials. And in early 2025, Japanese partners handed over another batch of equipment to the city for cleaning up construction waste and eliminating the effects of shelling. The total cost of the equipment provided by Japan exceeded 1.5 million euros.

In early June, the plant started operating in test mode. According to the mayor, all the debris left over from the Russian attacks will now be transported to the new plant, where it will be processed into crushed stone of various fractions. This material will be reused for road construction and repair.
